Gas Mileage Improvements
Getting the most out of every gallon seems to be everybody's concern at this time, people are exchanging their expensive sports cars and SUV's for smaller and more fuel efficient cars. The most popular would be the Honda's that can give you as much as 40MPG. We are not going to talk about cars today, instead, I will give you a couple of unique tips for gas mileage improvements.
We all know that hypermiling and doing some modifications in your engine will give you more MPG, but did you know that where you park and when you fill up also has an effect on your MPG's?
When on a parking lot, we often roam around trying to look for a space nearest the entrance of the building. Not unless you're very early or lucky enough to spot somebody pulling out, it's impossible to find a slot near the entrance because everybody wants the same spot. So instead of wasting precious gas, go ahead and park on the very first slot you see.
Another good practice is parking in the shade, only when you can. The shade slows down the evaporation of gas inside the tank, giving you better mileage. Amazing huh? I never thought parking space could give you gas mileage improvements.
The second tip for gas mileage improvements, is knowing when to fill up. Fuel is denser during the colder periods so it is advisable to fill up early in the morning or late at night. That way, you get more out of every gallon plus you avoid lining up, saving you more gas from idling.
Another thing to consider is the gas tanks underneath the station, water could sip through it and make the gas tanks rusty, overtime rustflakes would come loose and settle underneath the tank.
Normally, this wouldn't be a problem since they all settle at the bottom.
Not until the trucks make their delivery. The pressure from the gas flowing into the tank will stir up the rust flakes and makes it float around for a day or two before it again settles at the bottom.
So refueling after a delivery is not a good idea, all that rust and water will go from the stations gas tank into your car. And all this rust and water doesn't combine well with gas, not a very good strategy for gas mileage improvements.
Know when you favorite station is getting a refill and try to avoid filling up for about a day or two after delivery.
